Goal setting for perfectionists
I don’t know about you, but as a high achiever with strong perfectionistic tendencies goals can be vexing.
It's easy for me to take them too seriously.
It's hard for me to stop thinking about them.
I can be both dangerously optimistic & harshly self-critical.
There is strong likelihood I will achieve my goals, and/or potentially torture myself & my loved ones trying.
For all these reasons and more...I now spend 90% of my goal-related effort discovering the correct goal.
Some of my favorite questions to explore when setting a goal are:
The big things I am really committed to achieving are:
When I achieve these things, I will feel:
These achievements will help others by:
The essential qualities I already have that will aid me in achieving these things are:
1-2 beliefs or habits I will need to let go of in order to achieve these things are:
How are these achievements related to my purpose or genius?
And then finally the measurable day to day goals might come out here… The 3-5 things that are most likely to bring me closer to these achievements (or reach them) this quarter are:
