Ever wonder what is really holding you back?
Do you have clarity about what holds you back? Maybe you:
Have so many ideas about what your trouble is that you can’t narrow it down?
Hear people describe their problems and think – nothing so bad and dramatic is holding me back so maybe I don’t really have a problem?
Secretly suspect that nothing is holding you back except your fundamentally flawed self that has the exact life right now he/she deserves….?
We all have different levels of difficulty in getting where we are today but it’s my belief that unless you are a fully awakened being there is “stuff” holding you back from your full potential.
And by “stuff” I mean: patterns in the form of thoughts and actions that constrain your performance, happiness, satisfaction, resilience, peace, well-being and connection.
If you are curious what patterns are affecting your path in life most right now I propose this fascinating activity:
7-day Boredom Blitz
Instructions:
10 minutes a day.
For the next 7 days.
Do nothing.
Be bored.
The goal here is to sit in quiet and let yourself get bored. No phone. No music. No podcast. No tidying. No folding laundry. No brushing your dog. No writing in your journal or making your to do list. No stretching or yoga.
Watch what your mind does when you get bored.
Now if you have young children at home like I do you are having one of two reactions:
This sounds like a little slice of heaven. It’s an assignment from your coach. I wrote you a prescription. Go to it!
This sounds like a little slice of impossible…I get it, and if this feels totally undoable, email me and we will come at it a different way….
On the other hand, this idea might be already setting off panic alarms in your body … No productivity? No phone? No (mindless) scanning? No endless information consumption? Ahhhhhh….. 😫
The point of this activity is to watch what happens when you don’t have your usual “hits” of:
Achievement
Information
Distraction
Sometimes I swear the breaks in my day are carefully mapped out for maximum podcast consumption. I love a good podcast…but the Boredom Blitz forces me to get real about what I might be avoiding behind all the ideas, information and insights.
As you do this, notice how it feels in your body and notice what types of thoughts get momentum in the mind.
Start to make some notes (after your 10 minutes) about what is happening and begin spotting your patterns.
