It was a small change but I also knew it was a big deal. It can be really hard to stop the momentum of our patterns.

There was a moment of silence. Then she said:

"This is probably the single most helpful thing we have done together."

We are habit collecting machines.

At a young age we start to develop little patterns that help us feel safe, make sense of the world, be liked and accepted, get what we want, etc..

Not a problem. This is what it is to be human.

But sometimes we find ourselves doing something again and again that isn't working. It's not helping.

At some point it hits us (a true moment of grace!) - this thing I do is not working!

We get curious about how to change. Maybe we make a New Year's Resolution to change. ;-)

But it feels almost like we can't stop.
